The story begins when a neighbor in the Hamptons reached out to us after seeing our company’s trucks in their neighborhood. They had just moved into a brand-new home and were eager to enhance the bare landscape that came with it—a typical “builder’s special” lacking character and warmth. With several contractors vying for the job, Jessica Edge, our talented landscape designer, knew she had to make a strong impression. She crafted a comprehensive and thoughtful presentation, showcasing vibrant garden designs that would bring color, seasonal interest, and elegance to the backyard. Her creative efforts paid off, and she was thrilled to secure the project.
As the team began the landscaping project in the Hamptons, they quickly discovered a much larger issue than anticipated. Upon digging, they uncovered the absence of a drainage system, leading to standing water beneath the surface and a substantial layer of clay surrounding the site. It became clear that addressing these drainage issues would require an extensive project, ensuring a healthier landscape in the long run. While executing initial smaller plantings for the season, Jessica took this opportunity to present a comprehensive plan designed to create a cohesive, thriving landscape for the entire backyard. Together with the homeowners, they set a timeline for the fall, aligning with the family’s plans to be away.
The excavation was a significant undertaking—removing 800 cubic yards of clay to create a stunning outdoor space. As the team worked diligently, they transformed the area into a breathtaking sunken garden filled with hundreds of lush shrubs and perennials, revitalizing the entire property. The transformation was incredibly rewarding for everyone involved.
Once they finished the backyard, the homeowners were so pleased with the results that they hired Jessica to design a master plan for the front of the house. This new project presented its own unique challenges: the team needed to remove the existing driveway, eliminate one of the two entrances, lower the grade, and create a beautiful front entry adorned with gardens and natural screening. Additionally, they planned a charming cobblestone parking court to welcome family and guests.
With their previous experience in mind, the team was well-prepared for the amount of material they needed to excavate this time around. Jessica presented multiple layouts to the clients, ensuring they were excited about the final design concept that would elevate their property’s curb appeal.
The journey from a bare canvas to a flourishing landscape in the Hamptons was nothing short of remarkable. This project showcased the beauty that thoughtful landscape design and hard work can bring to a home. The homeowners were thrilled with the transformation, which not only enhanced their property but also created a welcoming environment for family and guests.
